The Province on Canada.com
I would generally be repeating myself it I were to respond overly much to the editorial. Needless to say, it's a reflection of the prevailing ignorant, counterproductive, backwater thinking that so many people subscribe to.
Anyways, I will save such re-hashing of my 'side' for future posts.
In the mean time, here is a quick summary:
- The Province (newspaper) ran an editorial criticizing Vancouver's plan to commit 1/3 of their road budget to cycling infrastructure and improvement -- bike lanes, etc. -- in order to increase cycling.
- The editorial suggests that, because most people use motorized transport and because they are often stuck in traffic on 'inefficient' roads, it's unfair and undemocratic to give road space to cyclists.
Ha! Wow: yokels are everywhere.
I agree with Vincent's commentary on the situation, so just go there for more info.
I have lots more to say on the matter, but I'd like to quickly point out cyclists -- as well as every other non-driving citizen -- pays road tax too, and so subsidizing driving.
On the bright side, this is an awesome proposal, and I will take back everything that I have said (negative) about Vancouver, should this go through!

Two things:
1) A lot of discussion about this site happens on facebook; so, I would recommend finding the site (link on the right sidebar) and me there.
2) I'm experimenting with non-sign-in commenting to encourage more discussion (the 2 minutes it takes to create a google/other account seems like too much trouble).
Being 'anonymous' is pretty lame, so at least make up a fake name to use.
